Ceratosaurus had been found in the Morrison Formation of North America, in Tanzania and in Portugal. Ceratosaurus had a row of hard scaly Osteoderms along its back. Ceratosaurus also had relatively strong arms considering that they were relatively small. Another odd feature that Ceratosaurus showcased was the three horns atop its head. Ceratosaurus also had four fingers on each hand when most other theropods at the time had three. Ceratosaurus had a long deep flexible tail not unlike a crocodile, which suggests that it may have been a good swimmer and hunted aquatic prey thus not interfering with the much bigger Allosaurus for food. Ceratosaurus was first found in 1884 by Othniel Charles Marsh in the Cleveland Lloyd Dinosaur Quarry in central Utah and the Dry Mesa Quarry in Colorado.
