Dilophosaurus was found in 1954 in Arizona. The specimen wasn't given a proper genus name until ten years later. The double crested trademark of this species has an unknown use. But, much like many other highly decorative dinosaurs, it may have been used as a display towards others of its kind. Studies have also shown that the crests may have been large in one gender than the other.
