Ornitholestes was found in 1900 by Henry Fairfield Osborn in Wyoming. Only one skeleton of Ornitholestes had ever been found and its a partial skeleton. When Ornitholestes was discovered, the discoverer had placed the wrong hands with the skeleton. This resulted in the assumption that it could catch small animals like birds or lizards, this is why it was named "Bird Robber".
